A very dark brown colour on the body, with deep red ruby shades once hold against the light.
Very sweet aroma with sweet liquorice, plums and sherry. Sweet bread, liquorice, dark fruits and sherry in the flavor. Chocolate and coffee too.
The alcohol gives this a nice warmth.
A nice warming beer for winter
St. Bernardus Christmas Ale is the youngest descendant in the illustrious family of delicious Abbey Ales by Brewery St. Bernardus.
Pours a cloudy, dark brown/mahogany colour with thick, foamy (slightly creamy) off white head that lingers. Nice lacing. Sweet and spicy aroma with hints of fruits and yeast. High carbonation, kind of like a chimay. Really refreshing even though it is sweet as well. Quite boozy with tastes of dates, a hint of cherries and a lot of spices. Great palate with a nice balance. Very fitting Halloween/Christmas season beer.
La Mère Noël 8.4°
Poured a medium and hazy golden color with a large sized, frothy white head. The aroma has very strong notes of fruit, both mango and peaches, grapes, and oranges, on a sweet back ground, and with light spicy notes of cinnamon – a very complex aroma. The flavor is very sweet with an alcohol, that attacks right from the start combined with a weird spicy note that mixes in with the complex fruity notes – again mango and peaches are very evident. Great mouthfeel that ends up with a warm feeling.
Pours a dark brown body with a brilliant red hue. The ligh-brown head is large, creamy and very dense. Very sweet and rich aroma, lots of malts and brown sugar, molasses, rich, dark dried fruits, orange peel, maybe some spices. The flavors are quite on the sweet side with lots of spices here also. Chocolate, candy, nuts, cardamom, malts, apples and lots of dark dried fruits also. Ends with a little alcohol touch that suits it quite nice. A really nice and sweet experience!
