Unfiltered, top-fermented beer with sour cherry juice, brewed with one variety of malt and wheat, and two breeds of hops. With a finishing touch of spices including coriander and orange peel. It is a sweet fruit beer with a lemony sour touch that doesn’t renouncing the true beer flavour.
Petrus Roodbruin is a blend of 33% Petrus Aged Pale, pure foeder beer that has been aged for two years in oak foeders, and 67% young brown beer. In this blend, the young dark beer contributes the reddish-brown colour, and the Aged Pale contributes the slightly sour flavour. Petrus Roodbruin is a typical traditional Flemish red ale as tradition dictates.

The style is also called the Burgundy of Flanders, and is a very typical and common beer in West Flanders Created by a secret blend of the aged and sour ‘mother beer’ with fresh brewed sweeter beer, this beer produces a sour-sweet balance, set off by the underlying bitterness of the hops. Brewed in the Cistercian Abbaye du Val-Dieu, Cuvée 800 is a special blond ale rich in authentic taste, roundness and complexity and also offers a subtle touch of hops. » Pours clear blonde, good white head. Smell is citrussy, yeast. Taste is fresh, bitter, very malty, mild citrus notes ( yet very clearly citrussy ) ok yeastyness, the scent mkes you expect way worse. Pretty ok in general. Bit sweet at the start maybe ( canfy-like aspects, pretty sure they’re from the hops ) but nothing really unbalanced.
Now more than ten years ago, a group of friends started a beer tasting club. Every two weeks they came together at one of their homes to drink a good Belgian beer and to discuss beer, women and football. During the years the interest in beer grew. This resulted in following brewing courses in 2007. From that year on, they started “Hobbybrouwerij Het Nest (Home Brewery the Cradle)”. Their first success was a third place at the Open Dutch Championship for home brewers in the “triple” class.

Rodenbach Alexander was brewed for the first time in 1986 on the occasion of Alexander Rodenbach’s 200th birthday and is now back by popular demand to the delight of beer lovers in Belgium and abroad. It is a blend of 2/3rd aged Rodenbach (100% 2 year aged beer) with 1/3rd younger ale, macerated with sour cherries. The natural flavour and taste of sour cherries brings a perfect match between the sour beer and the red fruit. Its aftertaste is reminiscent of a Burgundy wine and its freshness makes this beer the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to cheeses or dessert. Note: The 2016 version has the abv of 5.6%
Golden yellow with slight chill haze white head and lotsa lace. Lemony grapefruit tangerine aroma with a touch of grassiness. Apricot sweetness with a touch of cereal grains and lightly toasted nuttiness with assertive but not astringent grapefruit rind bitterness that lingers just enough. Medium nicely attenuated body with lively carbo to accentuate hops.
Beer of spontaneous fermentation, the Oude Mûre Tilquin à l’Ancienne is made from the fermentation of 350 gr of blackberries by liter of lambic. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, this beer is refermented in the bottle. Ingredients : water, malt, wheat, hops, blackberries.
Appearance is red purple, white head, hazy. Aroma is funky, sour, blackberries, barnyard, wonderful. Taste is funky, tart, sour, wonderful blackberry, barnyard, real good. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light crisp carbonation, funky blackberry aftertaste. Overall, really really solid.
