Pours a translucent orange amber with a creamy off white head. Extremely lively beer, not just in the pour but throughout. Deep dark brown with a lasting head, it’s got the palate of a fizzy blonde. The aroma is very understated, with mild funk. While one expects a very rich dark fruit and spice profile from a Belgian winter, this one strikes me as almost a cross between Dupont’s Avec des Bon Voeux and a slightly tart Belgian black. The flavor is never allowed to move beyond fruity due to the high hop factor. The finish is bittered well yet balanced. Balance is it’s best attribute. Equinox inherently wants to go fruitbomb but the strict hop bittering wont let it. A superb brew with a refined disposition. Highly recommended.
A traditional beer made with modern techniques. Bottle fermentation and dry hopped beer. Bottle-fermented and dry-hopped, Monsieur Rock is a bottom-fermented beer brewed using traditional methods by Jean-Marie Rock, a master brewer with almost 40 years’ experience. Monsieur Rock is a blond beer with a 6.6% alcohol content. It is brewed using just 4 ingredients: Pilsner malt, aromatic hops, water, and a specially selected bottom-fermenting yeast. This very low-temperature, bottom-fermented beer is produced using the same methods as were used to make certain special beers more than 40 years ago, making it a traditional beer brewed using modern techniques. The fermenting period lasts for over a week, and the beer matures in the maturation tank at a low temperature in the presence of aromatic hops. A specific yeast strain is used for bottle fermentation.
The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer. Pours an intense ruby red, with a very small pink head which slowly fades, but leaves good lacing. Nose is sour cherry and balsamic vinegar. Taste follows the nose. A delightful sour lambic.
A very good beer to begin with, add a bit of a sour twist and it just gets better. Taste is fleeting, chewy sweet, prior to a dry, light sour tartness. A lick of bitterness. Big, medicinal, boozy palate. Not overwhelming, though. Finish is dry, light tart, and fairly bitter. It is a big beer, but it has a fresh, natural feel to it, that makes it very drinkable. The smokiness in there, wherever it comes from, is a delight. Quality stuff.
Hazy yellow color, with a large, creamy, white head. Nice flavor, some good funk tones, sweaty socks, light sweetness, light dry dough, fine hay. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with more tangy, light lemon citrus, subtle dough and sweaty funk. It feels like a succesfull relation between a German wheatbeer and a belgian blonde. Nice and special.
Rodenbach Rosso is a refreshing fruit beer based on the unique Rodenbach beers aged in oak barrels, partly macerated with full red fruits. It pours deep red with a small pink head. The nose is sweet, jammy, full of red berry, wood and light tang in the background. The taste is crisp, tangy, raspberry, cherry, jam, light tartness, candied fruit and sherbet with a dry finish. Mid to light body. Watery palate; Mouth feel is Rodenbach Grand Cru being infused with nice red fruits – very malty with notable grains, still very yoghurt and rich-winey and cider apples without too much vinegar. Fruits are mostly dark cherries, sour cherries, fairly light raspberries, and they compliment the Grand Cru pretty well. Good!…..
